Newtown

t was founded somewhere in the early 1800s, although it is debated as to where the name “Newtown” comes from.

Some myths suggest that the name comes from a store operated in 1830 on the popular King street which was called “New Town Stores” but this has been disproven as research suggests the name “Newtown” being used as early as 1827.

In our opinion, its pretty obvious the name came from some dudes hanging around this area with new buildings and shops coming up and when asked “Yo what do we call this new place?”, someone just said, “Idk man call it newtown or something I’m busy fixing my moustache.”

Even though the name suggests you’re going to be in a modern-looking place, the architecture is very reminiscent of the late 1800s to early 1900s Renaissance style of aesthetic and look. Other than the Gong-cha and Chemist Warehouse of course, those didn’t come up until later on.
